The magic happens when you let in. In order to let in, you have to let go. I woke up at exactly 2:20am this morning, the time of the New Moon, the last one of the year. I could feel the nothingness, the quiet, the free clear space for the magic to start flowing in. This is available to us all in every moment of our lives, to exhale, to empty all the way out and then watch as the light comes in. We can breathe it in, a deep inhale, fill all the way up, and hold in all of the light, all of the love, all of the magic or we can just let it flow in naturally.
I was explaining this to my students this week in class that most of the practice of yoga is about letting the magic in. It is something you can only feel. In my own practice this week, I was floating with my feet in the sky, breathing in and out, holding handstand for what felt like forever. I was in a space of presence, non-thinking, just being, and as soon as I started to think, breathe in the light, do this…I fell, not really, but was going to fall so I took a step with my right hand to come out of the asana and that posture was over, I hung in rag doll to reset my breath and reset the present moment.
There was a moment when I was teaching Wednesday, where I could feel the magic. The students were moving from Eagle to Warrior 3. I had cued them from Crescent Warrior with their arms and heart in the sky, to exhale into Eagle, squeeze everything into center and on an inhale lift everything up arms, heart, gaze, and then to exhale as they unraveled from Eagle to Warrior 3 and then to inhale lengthening and grounding in Warrior 3. They were flowing through this the second time so I was using less cues, just pose names, Crescent, Eagle, Warrior 3. I was watching as the students were perfectly in sync with each other in a pretty crowded class, moving and breathing like they were one, one body, one breath. It was magical. Amazing Students.
Today as I woke up early with the new moon energy, I am letting the words flow like magic. I let my breath flow in and out naturally in my 4 minute forearm plank. I am enjoying every sip of my coffee and half and half. My daughter called me from bed wondering where I was and if I could rub her head as she fell back asleep. I left the coffee to get cold, the computer open, and went to her. I rubbed her head until she fell asleep. Being in the present moment is where the magic comes in. Exhale and let it in.
